The CRP Qualitative Test is a laboratory investigation used to detect the presence of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) in the blood.
CRP is an acute-phase protein produced by the liver. Its levels may increase in response to inflammation, infections, tissue injury, and certain inflammatory disorders.
Why Is the CRP Qualitative Test Recommended?
- Infection Assessment: Supports evaluation of possible bacterial or other infections.
- Inflammation Detection: Helps identify inflammatory conditions.
- Clinical Assessment: Supports investigation of fever and unexplained inflammatory symptoms.
- Disease Monitoring: May help assess inflammatory conditions alongside other investigations.
Sample Requirements
- Sample type: Blood (Serum).
- Fasting: Not required.
- Preparation: No special preparation is generally needed.
Understanding Your Results
- Positive / Reactive: CRP is detected above the assay’s qualitative detection threshold.
- Negative / Non-reactive: CRP is below the detection threshold of the test.
A positive result does not identify the cause or location of inflammation. A negative result does not completely exclude inflammation or infection.
